政治的なこと

むかしに読んだ『ハッカーと画家』に「スラッシュドットで言論の自由について議論することは、おれたちハッカーについては普通なんだぜ」みたいなくだりがあったなと思って、調べたら Preface (まえがき) にあった。

The fact is, hackers are obsessed with free speech. Slashdot, the New York Times of hacking, has a whole section about it. I think most Slashdot readers take this for granted. But Plane & Pilot doesn’t have a section about free speech.

突然そんなことを思い出したのは、John Gruber の Let’s Call a Murder a Murder が Hacker News でフラグされていた (いまは解除されている) からだ。

Hacker News のガイドラインでは、たしかに政治はオフトピックとされている。

Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.

しかし「言論の自由」について議論しつつも、政治について議論しないというのは、だいぶ難しいと思う。

結局、いまの "Hacker News" は大成功したベンチャーキャピタルの運営するフォーラムであって、とりわけ反体制的でもない。そこに「ハッカー」とついていることについて考えることは、あんまり意味のあることではないのだろう。残念だけど。
